Ok So... Before I moved to Las Vegas I had already spoken to a couple different people about jobs. 2 different companies said that they would most likely be able to hire me part time. So I thought great! 2 part time jobs... I'll take it, it's not ideal, but I'll take what I can get. Well... I get down here and it doesn't work out with either. So I spent about 2 1/2 weeks applying for jobs and waiting to hear back. Finally my roommate TorriLyn tells me that her boss is looking for a nanny for 5 days while he and his wife head back east to a dental conference. So... needing a job I accept. They have 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy. The oldest is 8 and the youngest is 2. I met with him and he also talked to me about possibly hiring me for some marketing work at his orthodontist office about 10 hrs a week and possibly some hours at his father's practice. I was excited because I at least had some prospects! Monday morning, 3 days before I am supposed to start nannying I get a call from 2 other companies that I have applied to and they want to set up interviews! Yay! The first is just a phone interview, but I figured great! I don't have to get ready and they'll call me later that day. The second was for a law firm... later that day.
I went to the interview at the law office and I even made BJ help me pick out my outfit, complete with shoes since he had the day off and was over visiting me. ( We hadn't chosen the shoes yet for this picture!)
I went and met with the Head hancho! Mr. Fales. I spoke with him for about 20 minutes. He informed me the only reason I was being interviewed was because he had seen on my response to one of his questions that I had attended a BYU. He too had graduated from BYU and is in fact LDS. To boot, all but 2 employees at this small office of 12 are LDS. The first question he asked was how I like my mission. I thought this was odd since I was here for a job interview, but I responded. Anyways... He informed me that he would be sending in 2 other employees to come and meet with me. So I enjoyed speaking with them for about 20- 30 minutes. When I had set up this appt I had informed them that I had another interview at 3. So as I was speaking with these 2 employees one of them brought it up. "I know you have another interview in about 5 minutes, but do you think you could reschedule? Skip it? I realize I can't force you to skip it, but if I could I would." I was kind of caught off gaurd, but informed her that I would call the other company later and see if there was anyway I could set up yet another interview. Apparently I was headed to step 3 of the interview process. This normally takes place on another day, but since they live close, they had called in Gary's (Mr. Fales') wife to come and meet with me. They informed me that they lived really close and that she was on her way and should be here in about 3 minutes. So I reluctantly said ok and waited.
Mrs. Fales comes in and speaks with me and asks me basically all of the questions that I have now answered twice. The other 2 employees are still in there with me so they are now hearing my response for the second time as well. Anyways Mrs. Fales asks me about when I would be available to start work if I were hired and I informed her tomorrow, but I had also accepted a position nannying for Friday- Tuesday. She asked me a little more and then asked who I was nannying for... turns out she and the wife of the Dr. grew up together in Rigby, Idaho and then were also VT companions for 3 years here in Vegas. Small world... anyways... she then leaves the room with the other two and they talk for about a minute. She then returned and said, "well... the job is yours if you want it. We would love to start training you tomorrow at 8am, and would like for you to come for the next three days and then they would let me have those 3 business days off to nanny and then I could return full time." I was so excited, so of course I said yes!
So... I now work for the Law Offices of Gary Fales and Associates as the receptionist and a member of the marketing department. He does probate, medicade, LLC's, Wills, Deeds, and Life and Death plans. It's actually quite interesting.
I'm sure glad that I didn't go in with this face though, Or I might not have gotten the job! Haha
congratulations on the new job!
